Polish Father’s Day – How Is It Celebrated In Poland?

Father’s Day is a holiday that many countries celebrate around the world, including Poland. It is a special day dedicated to the paternal role, love, and commitment that fathers bring to their children’s lives. It is an opportunity to express gratitude and honor fathers for their efforts, and the influence they have on their families.

When Is Father’s Day Celebrated In Poland?

In Poland, Father’s Day is on June 23rd. This date coincides with the summer solstice, during which, Poles celebrate Kupala Nights. This is an old tradition that goes way back in time and reaches old Slavic beliefs.

Mother’s Day – Kids Day – Father’s Day

We can easily tell there is a season of family celebration, It all starts on May 26th with Mother’s Day, a very big, and popular celebration in Poland. Then, 1st of June comes Children’s Day, another nationwide celebration. And the end of June comes to Father’s Day to close the family celebration.

How Is Father’s Day Celebrated In Poland?

Father’s Day is a time when children make an effort to express their feelings and gratitude towards their fathers. The celebrations may vary depending on family preferences but often involve gifts, well wishes, gatherings, and special gestures.

Children typically create handmade cards, dedications, and drawings to give to their fathers. Younger children may assist in preparing breakfast for their dads, while older ones may organize special events such as outings, family picnics, or quality time together.

Many schools organize special events, during which children perform for their fathers, and even often hold them together with Mothers’ Day end of May, the beginning of June.

Where Does The Tradition Of Father’s Day Come From?

The tradition of Father’s Day, in Poland, is not as well-established as Mother’s Day, and it is still hard for some to point out the exact date.

The first Father’s Day was celebrated in America, in 1910, and it was officially recognized as a holiday in 1924. Father’s Day is celebrated, usually with less fanfare than Mother’s Day, in many countries around the world, although the dates may vary.

In many countries, the date is the same as in the USA (the third Sunday in June), but in other countries, it falls on a different day. Since 1965, Poles celebrate Father’s Day on the 23rd of June.

Typical Gifts For Father’s Day

The gifts usually vary by the age of the children. Smaller children typically give handmade cards, called Polish laurka. The older children often go for some sweets, chocolates, mugs, or souvenirs. Older children come up with more sophisticated gifts like wallet, tie, or other souvenirs.
