I sometimes take for granted that some facts about Poland (like the one that Nicolas Copernicus was a Polish scientist, or that Chopin was a Polish musician) are known everywhere in the world. But those are old times, aren’t they? What’s Poland best at today? Let’s find out!

Glider pilots from Poland are setting records in the world championships. The recognition goes for their skills, technical knowledge, and ability to utilize atmospheric conditions.

Gliding is a highly competitive sport, and many countries have outstanding glider pilots. Nevertheless, Polish glider pilots have won the world’s top competitions many times and are considered among the best in the world.

Alpinists

It is hard to crown anyone as the “best,” but Polish alpinists have earned respect and admiration in the climbing world. They’ve got the skills, the drive, and the jaw-dropping achievements to prove it.

In 2018, Krzysztof Wielicki and his crew made history by achieving the first winter ascent of K2, the second-highest peak on Earth.

Wanda Rutkiewicz was the first woman to reach the summit of K2 and the first European woman to summit Mount Everest. She was living in my hometown, Lancut, for a while, that’s why she is special for me.

Jerzy Kukuczka, the Polish climbing legend, tackled all fourteen eight-thousanders without supplemental oxygen. And the first winter ascent of Mount Everest in 1980? Yeah, that one too belongs to Polish alpinists. The crew conquered Everest in very harsh conditions, setting the bar high.

Furniture Producing

Poland is leading in the furniture export, as the second-largest furniture exporter in the world, right behind China. Polish furniture are the top-notch with durability, and competitive prices.

But what really sets the Polish craftsmen, apart is the ability to cater to diverse customer preferences. A wide range of styles and designs keeps people coming back for more.

Polish IT specialist are well recognized in the IT world, and talented developers bringing fresh, even revolutionary, ideas to the table.

And although, it is hard to declare anyone the absolute best, Poland is definitely a major player in the gaming world.

Apples

Do you like apples? Do you buy them often? Poland is the leading apple producer and exporter in the EU. Let me hit you with some numbers. 575 tons of apples exported worldwide worth 235 million of Euro, over 10 months period. Impressive, isn’t it?

Thanks to perfect climate conditions and skilled farming practices, Poland delivers high-quality apples that people know for their crispness, excellent taste and beautiful red colors.

Low Unemployment Rates

Poland holds one of the lowest unemployment rates within the EU. Because of a highly qualified workers, central location and low production costs, the country has become home to many factories, and headquarter to leading companies.

Thanks to this, Poland offers wide range of job opportunity for all sectors.

Ski Jumping

Anyone who has been to these sports, knows these names :Adam Malysz, Kamil Stoch, Dawid Kubacki, Piotr Zyla.

Adam Małysz, who is one of the greatest ski jumpers of all time. Małysz won numerous World Cup titles and Olympic medals during his career. Other ski jumpers are not far behind, the world championship, Olympic medals are theirs year after year, just to prove their greatness.

Vodka

Poland was technically the first country to create vodka.

There is proof that the Polish distilled vodka during the 8th century, so, yeas, we own it. And although the world’s most popular is not actually polish, but there are some grate polish brands worth giving a shot. 😉 Belvedere, Chopin, and Pan Tadeusz, try those.

Amber

The world knows Poland for its rich deposits of amber and has a long history of amber craftsmanship. What actually Amber is? It is fossilized tree resin that has been used for centuries to create jewelry and decorations. The Baltic Sea coastline, including regions of Gdansk, is particularly famous for it.

Skilled artists in Poland have been crafting amber jewelry, such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. Traditional amber craftsmanship techniques, are still practiced today, generations pass the skill one to another.

Pierogi

Pierogi are undoubtedly one of the best-known and most beloved dishes from Poland. These delightful dumplings have gained popularity worldwide for their deliciousness and versatility.

Pierogi have various fillings such as cheese and potato, sauerkraut and mushrooms, or even berries. The art of making perfect pierogi is highly valued in Polish culinary traditions. So, if you’re looking for a taste of Poland, pierogi should be at the top of your list!
